Jumping on a plane with a stranger
You will read it in: 2 mins
You will learn about: motivation, self-exploration, loving yourself
Adventures are very often over-romanticised. Just by opening the news on my phone, I am bombarded with headlines such as: “How to live like a nomad for a year,” “5 reasons why you should go on an adventure right now” or “If your relationship doesn’t feel like an adventure, you must end it.”
One big selection of anxiety served freshly in the morning. Every morning. It makes me feel that if I am not living that kind of life, then am I even living?
What those articles don’t often talk about is why people long for adventures and what adventures can or cannot give. I have personally jumped on a plane with a stranger and this experience taught me very quickly and very profoundly that adventures are not always an answer for a fulfilled life. If you are a person, who doesn’t agree with one-sided view on life from the mainstream media, this is an article for you.
If it sounds so good, why it can’t be true?
Spontaneous trips, extreme activities or holiday flings have one thing in common. They provide guaranteed fun. Nevertheless, with an expiration date.
Once the novelty or the adrenaline from our crazy decision wears off, we are left with.. our usual reality. We are left with ourselves.
After couple of days traveling through France with a newly met stranger, I settled with them in one of the tiny, lovely cities. I was living in an adventure world, however, my pre-trip reality still found me there. All of my usual worries, fears, habits, still came with me to France. Ah!
So, is an adventure worth it?
Yes, absolutely yes! We should go on adventures. We should create adventures in our daily lives. They give us back the memories that we won’t forget. I still remember my trip to France vividly even if it happened almost 10 years ago.
The only question that one should be asking is why they are seeking an adventure. Am I bored in life? Do I need something to distract my unhappiness? If that is the reason for an adventure, then one should know that doing something extreme and spontaneous is not going to change the life, but to provide a distraction for a moment.
If you are seeking an adventure, whilst being happy with yourself and your life, that experience is going to give you so much more in return.
